How do Heat Pumps Work?

Unlike other types of heating and cooling systems; heat pumps warm up or cool down space by transferring heat, rather than burning fuel. During the hotter months of the year, heat pumps pull heat from inside your home and transfer it outside to cool your home. In the winter months, this process is reversed, and warmed air drawn from outside is cycled through your home’s air ducts. The whole system works by using coils that contain very cold liquid refrigerant. As air passes over these coils, it is either warmed or cooled. Additionally, air that passes over the coils is dehumidified, meaning the humidity level in your home is reduced.

Thermostats

Heating your home can be expensive… one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reduce your home heating costs is to install a programmable thermostat that automatically turns off your furnace when heat is not needed.

Some of the problems linked to heating and cooling your home can often be linked back to the thermostat. Sometimes there are easy solutions like it’s just out of adjustment or the batteries need to be replaced.  If you think your thermostat is acting up, the first thing you can do is to try replacing the batteries. In most cases, this is a simple repair that any homeowner can tackle by reading the owner’s manual of your thermostat.

If your thermostat says one temperature and you know the room is another, it’s possible that the thermostat may be dirty and needs to be cleaned or otherwise adjusted. You can carefully use a soft brush to gently remove dust and dirt. Some types of thermostats need to be properly seated on the wall and if they are tilted they will measure the temperature inaccurately. How does a Humidifier work?

The humidifier brings water vapor into the duct system through a distribution tray, which helps adjust the humidity levels and prevents harmful materials from coming into the air.
