    How do Heat Pumps Work?

Unlike other types of heating and cooling systems; heat pumps warm up or cool down space by transferring heat, rather than burning fuel. During the hotter months of the year, heat pumps pull heat from inside your home and transfer it outside to cool your home. In the winter months, this process is reversed, and warmed air drawn from outside is cycled through your home’s air ducts. The whole system works by using coils that contain very cold liquid refrigerant. As air passes over these coils, it is either warmed or cooled. Additionally, air that passes over the coils is dehumidified, meaning the humidity level in your home is reduced.

  • Tune-Up, Maintenance, Inspections

Keeping your system Running in Peak Condition

Performing regular service and maintenance for Heating and Cooling Systems can lengthen it’s life and maximize the efficiency of your units, which will make big difference to your bottom line and the cost of your monthly utility bills.

Basic Heating and Cooling maintenance should be performed by a professional at least twice a year, usually in the spring and fall around the start of each heating or cooling season. However, air filters need to be checked and replaced more frequently, according to your manufacturer’s specifications, and in some cases, once a month.

A well-maintained system is more energy-efficient, which will help lower utility bills. If your heater utilizes natural gas, we can help ensure all of your lines are secure, so your family stays safe from carbon monoxide and potential leaks.  Air conditioning systems that are cleaned and inspected to run for optimal operation, cost less to run, and avoid most breakdowns.

  • Thermostats

    Thermostats

Heating your home can be expensive… one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reduce your home heating costs is to install a programmable thermostat that automatically turns off your furnace when heat is not needed.

Some of the problems linked to heating and cooling your home can often be linked back to the thermostat. Sometimes there are easy solutions like it’s just out of adjustment or the batteries need to be replaced.  If you think your thermostat is acting up, the first thing you can do is to try replacing the batteries. In most cases, this is a simple repair that any homeowner can tackle by reading the owner’s manual of your thermostat.

If your thermostat says one temperature and you know the room is another, it’s possible that the thermostat may be dirty and needs to be cleaned or otherwise adjusted. You can carefully use a soft brush to gently remove dust and dirt. Some types of thermostats need to be properly seated on the wall and if they are tilted they will measure the temperature inaccurately. Or, your thermostat might not have been installed in a place where it can get an accurate reading.

  • Humidifiers

    Humidifiers

Humidity is the second most important factor (next to temperature) in determining your home’s comfort levels. That’s why people feel much warmer and more comfortable in homes that use a whole house humidifier. But improving comfort levels is only one of the great benefits of whole house humidifiers; they also do a great job at protecting our health.

    How does a Humidifier work?

A Whole-house humidifier works with your heating system to keep your home’s air from being too dry. The humidifier adds moisture to the air while the fan inside your furnace or air handler circulates the humidified air to every room. The humidifier brings water vapor into the duct system through a distribution tray, which helps adjust the humidity levels and prevents harmful materials from coming into the air. You can then monitor and control the level of humidity with your thermostat.   Making a more comfortable environment for you and your family to live in.

Benefits of Humidification of your Home

    Increase Personal Comfort

A lack of moisture in the air can dry out your nasal passages, leading to irritation of the skin, eyes, nose and mouth and may even exacerbate respiratory illnesses. Since humidifiers add moisture to the nasal passages and respiratory systems, they could also help minimize snoring and, in some cases, do away with it entirely resulting in a full night of uninterrupted sleep. And, do you apply more moisturizing products in the winter? That may very well be due to the air drying out your skin and lips, causing itchy, dull spots and cracks. Adding moisture using a humidifier will help keep your skin and lips smooth by preventing the dry, flakiness that accompanies the cold winter months–not to mention those surprising shocks you sometimes get from static electricity.

    Healthy Air, Healthy You

    • Skin conditions will improve. Dried out skin is bad enough for people without skin conditions, but it’s much worse for anyone who suffers from things like eczema or dermatitis. Installing a whole house humidifier is a great way to keep those conditions under control.
    • Your body won’t dry out. The biggest problem with a home that has low humidity levels is that the air is extremely dry. In the presence of low humidity, the air will dry out your body both inside and out. This causes uncomfortable problems like cracked lips, nosebleeds, itchy and irritated skin, cracked lips, dry eyes and more. Installing a whole house humidifier will keep your body moist and feeling great.
    • Cold, flu and allergy symptoms will be less severe. Another side effect of low humidity drying out your body is that it will worsen cold, flu and allergy symptoms. When your nose and throat are dried out, it will lead to much more severe coughs, sore throats and breathing issues. A whole house humidifier will make these symptoms much more manageable and speed up your recovery.
    • You’ll be less likely to catch illnesses. Our respiratory systems have a mucus membrane that defends our bodies from germs and viruses. This mucus membrane can dry out when the humidity is low, which greatly reduces our bodies’ abilities to fight off illnesses. In addition, many viruses and allergens survive longer in conditions of low humidity, so there will be a much better chance of illnesses lasting longer and spreading between family members if you don’t do anything to control your home’s humidity levels
    • You’ll sleep better. There are a number of reasons why people sleep much better in homes with whole house humidifiers. First, because humidifiers help protect against illnesses, your family will sleep better simply because they are healthier and not being woken up by sore throats, coughing and sneezing. Second, people snore less in normal humidity levels than they do in low humidity levels because their respiratory systems aren’t dried out. Finally, a humidifier will make your home generally more comfortable, which will make it easier to fall and stay asleep.

    Save On Energy Bills

High air humidity will help your body feel comfortable at lower temperatures, and you will not need to use your heat as much when you are living in humid air. According to the EPA, you save up to 4 percent on your heating bill for every degree you lower your thermostat.

A whole-home humidifier doesn’t just add to your health – it adds to your wallet. Studies have shown that the indoor relative humidity in your home is best at around 35-50%. Throughout the winter, your furnace often strips the air of moisture during the heating process, which can cause the air inside your home to feel exceedingly dry. The best way to have a more energy-efficient and comfortable home during the winter is to control your indoor humidity. Low humidity can also decrease the efficiency of your home’s heating system. Air that captures more moisture can maintain more heat, which means it will feel warmer. In turn, low humidity in your home means the air will feel cooler, causing you to have to turn up the heat more than necessary to be comfortable.

When the heating season concludes, your humidifier can be drained and powered off until it is needed again. The only maintenance your humidifier should need can be performed by your Service Exerts technician during your regular HVAC tune-ups.

    Stop The Static

The dry, cool air can create a lot of static. Is your family getting shocked more lately? A humidifier makes the air less dry and lowers your likelihood of being shocked at home.

Protection of the home. When humidity levels in the home are kept balanced by a furnace humidifier, the damaging effects of dry air are kept at bay. Wood flooring, cabinets, furniture, and other fixtures are protected from cracks and drying out. Static electricity in the home is also reduced when air is properly moisturized.

    Preserve Your Home Furnishings

Air that is too dry can also affect the finishes and furnishings in your home, especially those made from wood and paper.  Dry air causes them to shrink, warp, and crack. Low humidity could also have a unfavorable effect on paper products, such as photos, posters, and books, resulting in them becoming more brittle.

    Do you really need one?
